In February of 2020 I got a laparoscopy done... I'm not sure if that was the thing that kick started my digestive problems but I do know that those problems started relatively soon after.
Bloating, abdominal pain, all of that jazz... became frequent occurrences for me and in July of 2020 I booked an appointment with a gastroenterologist in Florida. I was convinced I had irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and after some bloodwork and a chat with my doctor it was confirmed.
Now, IBS sounds worse than it really is! It really is just annoying to deal with. So, that being said, I started taking active steps to make some life changes in order to make my symptoms lessen. The first thing I began doing was taking fiber supplements daily and after that I also began taking peppermint pills each night with dinner. This worked WONDERS! Think of peppermint as the Vick's Vapor Rub for your intestines. Now, I also needed to start being more mindful of what I eat. Enter, TONS of fruits and vegetables and exit, meats that are hard to digest like steak. The final thing my doctor advised was more running. Getting my blood pumping at least five days a week helps blood move through my digestive system a bit more and give it the boost it needs to work efficiently.
Between tossing out EVERY single processed thing in my pantry, logging my water intake (70 ounces a day), staying active, and finally eating well consistently, I'm happy to say that my digestive issues have significantly reduced. Praise Jesus! Never underestimate the power of eating well and staying active.
As always, take care of yourselves and stay positive! Xx
